The IncluMusic project is paving the way for more inclusive practices in higher music education institutions (HMEIs) across Europe. As part of its mission, Work Package 3 (WP3) focused on the design and internal testing of the IncluMusic Training Courses aimed at equipping teachers, administrative staff, and tutors with the skills and knowledge needed to foster inclusive learning environments for students with special educational needs (SEN).

This includes supporting inclusive teaching through legal, technological, and pedagogical frameworks, promoting mindfulness and music therapy in education and strengthening community music initiatives.

What are the IncluMusic Training Courses?

The Training Courses includes the following six training modules which were developed by the IncluMusic consortium and internally tested by staff members of partner institutions:

  1. Disability Studies and Special Pedagogies
  2. Special Music Methodologies and Assistive Technologies
  3. Legal and Ethical Principles of Inclusion
  4. Mindfulness and Inclusive Music Teaching
  5. Music Therapy, Music and Health
  6. Inclusive Music Education and Community Music

Who participated in the internal testing?

A total of 27 persons from partner HMEIs across institutions in Cyprus, Ireland, Italy, Romania participated in the internal testing phase. Feedback was gathered from both teachers and administrative staff.

What are the results of the internal testing?

The feedback gathered from WP3 internal testing will now be used to revise the training materials before they are rolled out for broader implementation in WP4. These improvements will enhance usability, interactivity, and accessibility for a wider audience in terms of design, content and user friendliness.

The highlights of the internal testing are captured here:

Positive Highlights:

  • High-quality and well-structured content
  • Relevance to daily teaching and administration tasks
  • Effective integration of theory and practice
  • Engaging discussions on mindfulness and music therapy
  • Clear improvement in awareness of legal frameworks for inclusion

Areas for improvement:

  • Simplify certain PPT Slides with too text-heavy content
  • Improve audio quality or clarity in some videos
  • Explore the possibiltiiy for greater interactivity and real-life examples

Evaluation Outcomes

The quantitative and qualitative targets were largely met. The Training Courses were all delivered and all modules piloted with an adequate number of participants. Areas for improvement relate mostly to formal corrections and suggestions for usability and interactivity.

The general feedback is very strong: an 87% overall positive evaluation, surpassing the project's 80% satisfaction benchmark.

Next steps

In the next phase (WP4), the Training Courses will also be externally tested. Feedback from relevant staff outside the project consortium will be gathered to further ensure improvement of the Training Courses. The main goal of the IncluMusic is to publicly disseminate the Training Courses, intended to be used by HMEIs across Europe!

IncluMusic’s training materials will soon be available to all interested institutions and individuals through the project's online platform. This is your chance to:

  • Learn more about inclusive teaching methods
  • Empower yourself and your colleagues
  • Help build a music education system that truly includes everyone
